Why There Are No GMO Oats (and Probably Never Will Be) – Modern Farmer

There are many reasons there are no genetically modified oats. But the main one is money.

Never is a long long time. We will certainly have GMO oats somewhere down the road. The question then is whether we will do the genetic modifications for good or just simply increase the use of pesticides on oat fields.

Thousands of dragonfly larvae

In my pool conversions. One in particular has a huge range of different sizes. That is probably mostly a difference in ages but there may be different species as well. The bottom of the pool is probably in the neighborhood of 20 x 40 and there are probably more than one larvae per square foot plus those hanging on the walls so I guess that there are probably close to a thousand which is amazing zika protection. And I have multiple pool conversions! Don’t you wish you were contributing to a non-toxic mosquito defense shield. :-) Bob 310 429 8477 www.PuraVidaAquatic.com

Beepocalypse Myth Handbook: Dissecting claims of pollinator collapse | Genetic Literacy Project

By the way, if you were not aware of it, the “genetic literacy project” is a Monsanto funded research laboratory whose mission is to scientifically show that smoking does _not_ cause cancer. Just so you know

After a decade of debate, the causes of the mid-2000s spike in bee deaths is coming into focus. Culprits are multifactorial, a rebuke of simplistic fingering of pesticides. Time for targeted solutions.

Oh wait, contrary to the grandiose sounding “genetic literacy project” lower case letters intentional :-)

– smoking does cause cancer and insecticides do kill bees. Just my two cents :-)

Crime In The Fields: How Monsanto And Scofflaw Farmers Hurt Soybeans In Arkansas

A new type of genetically engineered crop {sold by Monsanto ed:note} is tempting farmers to use a weedkiller illegally. The illicit chemical use has damaged nearby crops and provoked conflict among neighbors.

What a wonderful marketing strategy :-) . The neighbors will “just have to” buy Monsanto’s seed in the future.

An Important New Reason to Keep Pesticides Away from Children

Children exposed to insecticides inside their homes have a 47 percent higher risk of developing certain cancers in childhood, according to a new report.

And this is just looking at cancer rates. Most insecticides are neurotoxins. Think about the autism, ADHD, and Alzheimer’s rates.

And you really should think about changing that chlorinated chemical wasteland of a swimming pool in your backyard to a naturally filtered system. :-)

Monsanto draws state heat over drift

The Monsanto Co. caught the attention — and much of the aggravation — of the pesticide committee of the state Plant Board on Monday as it tried to address damage wrought by the illegal spraying of dicamba on some cotton and soybean fields in the state.

And some people still believe that Monsanto is not worse than the tobacco companies in the 60-70s.

Think what the farmers who lost 5% of their crop to Monsanto’s wind spead poisons will do to prevent that from happening again. Because Monsanto can take your farm if their corn blows into your field and take your crop when their pesticide blows in too.

A farmer who losses their profit this year will know that you can’t fight the corporate lawyers and in all likelyhood take the easy way out and next year give in and buy Monsanto’s NEW GMO product too. And heck since the NEW GMO product is already herbicide “friendly” why not just go ahead and spray that toxin too.

Meet Luca, the Ancestor of All Living Things

The team identified 355 genes that trace to the last ancestor by phylogenetic criteria.

The idea of how LUCA could be found came when a researcher from Martin’s group was giving her 20-minute summary of a Masters thesis in bioinformatics.

“That genomes have retained traces of life’s earliest history is an exciting prospect. Even more exciting is the prospect that we can decipher some of that history,” said Martin.

Homemade Coconut Milk Kefir

We love the tangy and fresh flavor of kefir, a fermented beverage often described as drinkable yogurt. However, those of you who aren’t as fond of kefir might say that describing it as “tangy” is a little too kind.  What, you wonder, is there possibly to like about what is essentially a glass of thick, […]
